Medicilon passed Guangdong FDA review and examination

Medicilon provides different kinds of animal disease models for  pharmacology services  such as  Cancer Xenograft Models ,  Neurological Disorders Models ,  Inflammation & Immunological Disease Models  and  Metabolic Disease Models .  Medicilon has been helping many pharmaceutical companies to complete pharmacology studies. Recently, Medicilon passed the Guangdong CFDA audit on the in vitro and in vivo efficacy studies. Create 3D multiple myeloma model to aid preclinical development efforts

Multiple myeloma   is an incurable cancer of the bone marrow; most patients develop resistance against first line therapy Velcade (bortezomib) sooner or later, which is a problem because few alternative drugs are available. Part of the reason for this is that to date there have been no screening systems to allow scientists to study the effects of multiple myeloma drug candidates in a 3-D environment. This may soon change according to European scientists who have grown miniature human myelomas in chicken eggs in a microenviroment that includes extracellular matrix compounds (ECM) and supportive stromal cells. 3D Multiple Myeloma Model “ We wanted to generate a natural microenviroment by combining 3-D co-culture in ECM matrix with in vivo growth conditions in chicken embryos ,” said Gerold Untergasser at Innsbruck Medical University in Austria. “ The previous standard 2 D culture was not very successful for testing drugs on myeloma cells, because some drugs were not very effic...

Cancer Xenograft Models

Cancer Xenograft Models  Introduction Mouse models of cancer have consistently been used to determine the in vivo activity of new anti-cancer therapeutics prior to clinical development and testing in humans. The most  common models  are xenografts of human tumors and cell lines grown subcutaneously in immunodeficient mice such as athymic (nude) or severe combined immune deficient (SCID) mice. These mouse strains exhibit very high take rates for xenografts, making them ideal hosts for in vivo propagation of human tumor cells. Xenograft tumors are usually established via subcutaneous inoculation of a predetermined number of tumor cells into the flank of  nude mice .  Xenograft models  are commonly used to determine ideal drug dosing, treatment schedules, and routes of drug administration that maximize anti-tumor efficacy and therapeutic window. The following are a few examples of cancer xenograft models performed. Cancer Xenograft Models       ...

Suicide Cells in Tumor Environment Can Drive Metastasis

It’s an appealing idea: Eliminate the cells that support a tumor, and maybe the tumor will, in a manner of speaking, come tumbling down. But what if the tumor remains standing? Even worse, what if the tumor is soon accompanied by spreading metastasis?     Such unexpected developments were in fact observed in a study conducted by researchers based at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). According to these researchers, the consequences of inducing the self-destruction of tumor-support cells crucially depend on timing.     Tumor support cells, or cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), may be engineered to carry so-called suicide genes. Because the genes can be activated by means of a small molecule inducer, they can be triggered at will. Such control is enormously convenient in cancer research. For example, it can enable researchers to eliminate CAFs at defined moments in tumor progression.     Selectively orchestrati...
